MR. ENOCH BOATENG

Soil and Landuse Expert

Mr. Boateng holds a BSc. in Agriculture from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana; an MSc. in Soil Science from The State University of Gent, Belgium. He has several Certificates in his field from numerous institutions around the globe.
For most of the projects he has been involved with, Enoch has been the Team Leader for land and soil studies, conducting geological and topographic soil survey, soil characterization and land suitability assessment in most important (large and medium) irrigation projects in Ghana since 2008. Enoch in his capacity as a Soil Expert provided hydrological information such as infiltration rate, percolation and hydraulic conductivity data for input into irrigation schedules in water management of these irrigation schemes. As a Soil Surveyor, he has worked in most of the Administrative Districts in all 16 Regions of Ghana. He also has experience in Irrigation Development Projects, having worked for two years as an Assistant Agronomist at the Irrigation Company of Upper East Region (ICOUR) in Navrongo. Beyond Ghana, Enoch has worked for at least 6 months in semi-arid regions of Nigeria on the preparation of the Strategic Action Plan for the Development of Water Resources in the Komadugu-Yobe Basin, Northern Nigeria; as well as a month’s stint as a Soils Expert on the FAO mission to the Gambia to help with the Digitization of the Soil Map of Gambia. For over 30 years, Enoch’s experience has been in working on projects involving the use of GIS and remote sensing tools for soil survey and land suitability assessment, part of them in Ghana where he was involved in soil surveys for irrigation projects, and other agricultural sectors, including water resources management, and land use planning. He has served on many agricultural planning committees within the Ministry of Food and Agriculture. As a trained Pedologist working at the CSIR-Soil Research Institute, Ghana, he had the opportunity to conduct several soil surveys and land suitability assessment of specified areas for agriculture. Soil characterization and classification, soil mapping and land suitability assessment for both varied land use of diverse projects form a sizable percentage of the work schedule. Enoch Boateng besides journal publications has produced over 40 Technical and Consultancy reports and is a member of Soil Science Society of Ghana, Ghana Science Association, African Soil Science Society and International Union of Soil Science. Currently, Mr. Boateng, who is also a traditional ruler, having retired from public service, works with NEMAS as Soil Scientist.
